Hi, I joined dreamwidth early this morning. I love the idea of this community. I have writing journals filled with ideas that I've done nothing with. In my closet, I have a large pillow case filled with yarn. In my nightstand I have yarn on a knitting needle, which I haven't touched(other than to move out of the way) in about 3 months. I tend to start out with enthusiasm and quickly run out of steam.
Writing: 0/5
I want to spend an hour a day, 5 times this week.
Yarn: 0/5
I've been hit by the crochet bug. I recently watched a beginner's vid on youtube, and now I want to learn how to crochet. I want to get that basic stitch down, and have my work look ok. I hope to spend 30 min. a day, 5 times a week on this.
Exercise: 0/5
It's always good to work on one's health.
Minimum 10 min. a day exercising, 5 times a week.
Environment: 0/7
Activities need to be put up for a more neat and live-able environment. Plus if things have a home they're more easily to find and less likely to get broken. 10 minute cleanup a day, 7 times a week.

It's been a pretty good week.
Writing: 6/7
Working on underpinnings for a new story and little bits are coming to us all the time.
Art: 7/7
Mostly knitting, but the painting bug has bit today so who knows.
The Work: 4/7
Getting into some repeatable things aside from cleaning up the bleeping place so we can have a decent environment for Work. And that funnels back into the visual art we do, so it's even more win.

Greetings,
I am new to dreamwidth and this is the first community I joined. I started journaling at Live Journal to see if it might help prod me into higher productivity -- I'm creating an educational video for artists.
Just imagining that someone might be watching over my shoulder does seem to make a difference. The daily grind is sometimes difficult to deal with. Maybe this community will be a good place to discuss frustrations during long-term speculative projects.
I have one question... do my regular posts in my journal also end up posted here? It seems that may have happened, according to how makesomethingalready's Reading Page looks in my viewer.

In hindsight, it doesn't seem like motivational communities run by someone/s who have trouble with motivation are going to have a high success rate. But we'll keep trying.
As for how we're doing on our goals? Heh...
Writing: 2/7 in the past week. Still got some Issues that make us uncomfortable about writing, especially writing the things we tend to.
Art: 7/7. Not very much variety at all; this is almost all knitting. We've been working on
embodiment, a daily paper journaling project, with the goal of doing some small piece of art in each day's entry. That worked for ten days, maybe two weeks, then...not so much.
We still keep coming back to it, though. Having a low standard is good here; it makes it more likely we'll do something and finish it (assuming that it never has to see the light of day unless we decide it will), decide on a realistic amount of detail to finish in one day, and experiment with our supplies. It was nice to find out that oil pastels don't feel the way we expected, while doodling something akin to an early grade school level of design, rather than during practice for a Really Important project whose overall end look is fixed in our mind already.
The Work: 5/7, one of those being a bonus point for going above and beyond on one day. We're slowly getting more organized and decluttering, as well as doing mental housecleaning (see also: Art) and all that.
I know I saw at least two posts here in the past week. How are the rest of you doing?

Goals: making things in the morning
May. 6th, 2010 12:35 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
After thinking about the way my schedule works, I've decided it's in some ways counterproductive to try to make things in the evening, when my brain is tired. Instead, I'm going to try to shift my schedule earlier, eventually waking up around 7 regularly, going downstairs to do creative stuff by 8, and leaving for work at 10, getting to the office sometime around 10:15. (I currently wake up around 10 and get to work at 11). A two-hour window of creative time *every day* would be really awesome--and help with the other issues I'm having with my work schedule, too. It'll be a challenge, but I have a French press :)
So my goal for this upcoming week (the one starting this upcoming Monday) is to finish one piece of jewelry by working on it exclusively in the mornings. I expect I won't be shifted entirely, but I think that getting into the rhythm of being creative in the morning *before* work will be important.
My goal for every week after *that* is to finish two pieces of jewelry per week, mostly in the mornings.
If my sleep schedule is truly stabilized in two months (by the weekend of July 9), I'm going to give myself permission to go to the area gem show :)

I have an annoying tendency to take on too many projects at once and only be at all motivated by deadlines, so setting myself some goals and working to those time frames can only be a good thing.

I'm taking part in three writing challenges this year. Insane, I know, but I never claimed to be in my right mind.
( Targets and progress are behind the cut, because excitement makes me ramble. )

So I was on spring break last week and thought I would get caught up on things...not so much.
Writing 2/7
Reading 2/7
Here's to hopefully meeting my goals this week. I need to instill some kind of reward/punishment system...like no Facebook until I've either written 2 pages or read 10(since I usually have a lot more reading than writing to do).

AKA, "What
loreyu just said? ...yeah."
For the prior 7 days, again, skipping what we didn't report... >.>
Writing 4/7
Art 5/7
The Work 7/7
We're finally making progress with creating our own language so writing is getting a little easier. The discomfort with our fiction is still there, sadly.

Art may imitate life, but life definitely has a way of interrupting art. I haven't met the goals I set in weeks. That's a pretty good indication that those goals aren't realistic for me right now, so I'm changing them up. Not all of them are art-related, for which I apologize, but some are.
1. Continue exercising at the gym at least three days a week.
2. Continue writing in my transition blog at least once a week.
3. Write fiction at least once a week, for a half hour.
4. Continue to cook for my family at least four days a week, concentrating on healthy, budget-conscious meals. Making them delicious too is the art part!
(Cross-posted to my personal journals.)

Good heavens I desperately need something like this to apply gentle but firm pressure to my guilt to get things done.
So...it's Sunday night. Here's what I want to do (rationally) in the next week:
Start knitting again--2x this week.
Start on the sequel to one of my longer fanfics--3 days this week
Exercise--4 days this week <---this will be the hardest.
Writing--7 days--I do this anyway. :(
Draw--2 x this week. I suck at drawing but the only way to get better is to practice. I need permission to suck!!
I hope this helps! I'll report in and see how badly I failed. :(
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
We were doing wonderfully with the knitting that first week... but then we stopped. Not sure why. Still in love with the yarn we're working with right now. Looking into a circle that might meet in the library on mondays. Hoping they're good people. We shall see!
Writing wise: Been doing really well with that until the health stress that's hit us these last few days. We'd only missed a day since starting this journal. But our mind isn't what it was when we started thanks to the medication we're on, so it's not as easy to keep up with this grand experiment. Going to make an effort, starting today, to get back into it, though. The beginning of this journey and the starting of the meds came at the exact wrong time for eachother. Ugh.
Goals withstanding. Yarn and Writing Every Day.

I will set a few realistic goals:
1. Writing one hour a day 5 days a week. This seems steep considering I'm a full time college student but I'm including homework and projects as well as original works.
2. Reading two hours a day for 4 days a week. This includes reading assignments(not really creative but I need a little kick to do ym history readings some weeks).
Good luck to everyone in reaching your goals this week!

Sorry for disappearing a bit. The temptation to hide has been strong.
For the 7 days ending with today:
Art: 7/7
Writing: 3/7 and some of that is probably exaggeration
The Work: 5/7
Going through a period of doubt with respect to writing - not so much our ability, I think, as the themes and subjects we tend to choose. Need some reverse brainwashing with respect to those subjects.

Same as last week, I met my goal 5/7 days. I'd hoped to up my goals, but I think I'll wait a bit since apparently what I've got going is challenging enough.
I'm really grateful for this community's existence, but I'm going to pull back out after I post this. I feel self-conscious posting into the silent void! No hard feelings or anything. I seriously do credit this place for jump-starting me again.
Best of luck to everybody =D

Pretend I'm posting this on Saturday, Feb. 20th, okay? I even procrastinate on the anti-procrastinating comm ;__;
Here's the good news: I met my goal on five out of seven days! Since I've been meeting my writing goals 0/7 days for a couple of months now I'm THRILLED with this development. In all seriousness I credit this comm for getting me going. Just that little feeling of accountability and external motivation has kick-started me again. I'm so happy and grateful!
Short version: goal met 5/7 days

"Cleaning" is really only the most major of the steps to take for our energy/trance/journey work. So we changed the criteria. Still only 3/7, though. :/
Hopefully we'll remember to do reminders later today. ^^;

Goals for
margaretdriscoll
Every day:
10 minutes/day writing in observational journal
20 minutes/day writing part of a scene
I know those goals are very minimal, but hopefully they'll be increasing in a month or so. Right now I'm hoping to just get back to a place where I consistently write, every day.
Nice to ~meet~ you all (and I hope I don't get kicked out for non-posting slackerism ^^;)
