Hi, I joined dreamwidth early this morning. I love the idea of this community. I have writing journals filled with ideas that I've done nothing with. In my closet, I have a large pillow case filled with yarn. In my nightstand I have yarn on a knitting needle, which I haven't touched(other than to move out of the way) in about 3 months.  I tend to start out with enthusiasm and quickly run out of steam.

Writing: 0/5
I want to spend an hour a day, 5 times this week.

Yarn: 0/5
I've been hit by the crochet bug. I recently watched a beginner's vid on youtube, and now I want to learn how to crochet.  I want to get that basic stitch down, and have my work look ok. I hope to spend 30 min. a day, 5 times a week on this.

Exercise: 0/5
It's always good to work on one's health.
Minimum 10 min. a day exercising, 5 times a week.

Environment: 0/7
Activities need to be put up for a more neat and live-able environment.  Plus if things have a home they're more easily to find and less likely to get broken. 10 minute cleanup a day, 7 times a week.

After thinking about the way my schedule works, I've decided it's in some ways counterproductive to try to make things in the evening, when my brain is tired. Instead, I'm going to try to shift my schedule earlier, eventually waking up around 7 regularly, going downstairs to do creative stuff by 8, and leaving for work at 10, getting to the office sometime around 10:15. (I currently wake up around 10 and get to work at 11). A two-hour window of creative time *every day* would be really awesome--and help with the other issues I'm having with my work schedule, too. It'll be a challenge, but I have a French press :)

So my goal for this upcoming week (the one starting this upcoming Monday) is to finish one piece of jewelry by working on it exclusively in the mornings. I expect I won't be shifted entirely, but I think that getting into the rhythm of being creative in the morning *before* work will be important.

My goal for every week after *that* is to finish two pieces of jewelry per week, mostly in the mornings.

If my sleep schedule is truly stabilized in two months (by the weekend of July 9), I'm going to give myself permission to go to the area gem show :)

I have an annoying tendency to take on too many projects at once and only be at all motivated by deadlines, so setting myself some goals and working to those time frames can only be a good thing.

I will set a few realistic goals:

1. Writing one hour a day 5 days a week. This seems steep considering I'm a full time college student but I'm including homework and projects as well as original works.

2. Reading two hours a day for 4 days a week. This includes reading assignments(not really creative but I need a little kick to do ym history readings some weeks).

Good luck to everyone in reaching your goals this week!

Goals for [personal profile] margaretdriscoll

Every day:

10 minutes/day writing in observational journal
20 minutes/day writing part of a scene

I know those goals are very minimal, but hopefully they'll be increasing in a month or so. Right now I'm hoping to just get back to a place where I consistently write, every day.

Nice to ~meet~ you all (and I hope I don't get kicked out for non-posting slackerism ^^;)

New journal so new goal list.

While still in school let's go with:
1) Yarn craft daily.
2) Write something, anything, every day, be it journaling, fiction, or assignment.

And that's all I'm going to hold myself responsible for at this point. I think I've found a happy balance, for now.

My goal is to finish and post some artwork every week, either on here or on my deviantart account, and to write in my journal every day.

Ok. So I'm NOT working on that novel. It's just not happening, right now. Therefore, I'm going to nix that goal as my primary objective and set up some more realistic goals for the time being.

1) Knit daily. I have too many half finished projects lying around that I really want to USE!
So goal the first is to knit at least a row on Something every day. No Exceptions.
2) I'm putting in a cleaning clause as well. Not creative, but definitely conducive to creativity! It will be in two parts: a) Every day is laundry day. No exceptions. b)Get back on track with room-a-day even if it's not doing the whole room. I want to do Something cleanliness or organizationally related in a specific room of the house each day. School is not so taxing that things should be in the state that they are.
3) Write something every day. More than just statuses on facebook or blurbs on twitter. It must be either a journal entry, a story fragment, or even a paper for school. It can be hand written, a document, or posted on a website, but it must be more than a blurb. Blurbs are the mind killers.
4) Paint, sew, or work with clay once a week, at least. I might end up setting a specific day for this.
5) This is not creative, either, but I need to put it somewhere I'll remember it. No Meat Mondays.

Ok. I think that's it. For now. :) Off to knit a few rows before I leave for school! XD

Cleaning: 3/7
Art: 5/7
Writing: 4/7

Goal tweaks: We added knitting into the art possibilities after seeing that we didn't knit very much. The intent of our original art goal was to put time into things that we otherwise might not do because we're afraid to fail at new things, and we saw knitting as a distraction from that. While we're much further along with knitting skill, we can remain focused on our original intent by refusing to award points if we're procrastinating on things that would require us to push ourselves.

We expanded writing a little by deciding that journal entries and the like can count if they provide material for future writing. They count as planning if we dig deep enough to make realizations and connections that will find their way back into our writing.

So I only wrote once this week. It was a good experience and I got a little further with the story. But one day is not every day. So there is definitely room to improve. :/

Our goal for this year is to write 100,000 words. 50,000 words can consist of journal entries, either for our personal or professional blog, but the other 50,000 must be in our editor's hands by December 31, 2010. We had 30,000 words published last year, so this seems like a reasonable target. Outlines and notes won't be counted in our totals.

This amounts to 1,923 words a week, 961 of which must be aimed at publication.

I had originally meant to use this as a way to prod myself, and to be prodded, to knit. I think, however, that I might be better served to use this community to hold me accountable for something a little more important. Not that knitting isn't important, but it's not how I one day wish to make my living, writing might be just that. That said, I'll probably put up a goal for my knitting in the future, too. ^^;;

For now I want only to be held accountable to my writing goals.

It was my intention to pick my novel back up in January and finish up the first "write through" at the same pace the first 50,000 words were achieved. So far this month I have written NOTHING.

It is my goal to get back into the habit of roughly 1000 words a day. They don't have to be good words. I just have to create a manuscript. From there I can go back and rewrite the whole thing ad nauseum, creating something worth reading. But the whole story has to be laid down first before that can begin.

So. That's my goal. 1000 words a day. Hold me to it. Because so far I've done bupkis!

We have three things to start:

1. Spent at least 10 minutes each day on a craft that is not writing or knitting.
2. Spend at least 10 minutes each day on writing, editing, and/or story prep.
3. Spend at least 10 minutes each day on cleaning and organizing so that we have a better environment for crafting and for doing the activities in the book Trance-portation by Diana Paxson. (We figure the latter qualifies as somewhat creative.)

These will all eventually get adjusted as our situation changes.
